Bank #3 - Teller says he has $19.50 in halves but I might not want them because they are old. He grabs a few from his tray to show me and :s9: SILVER!!! I hold myself together and say "OLD??? No problem..the kids just look thru them and put them in their coin books. Just put them in one of the bank envelope so I can give them to them when I get home"

Yeah right...I open that envelope in my car. I just love "young" teller who are clueless :bear_tongue:

Wow very nice. I was a the bank yesterday and an older gentleman (probably 75-80) was dumping a big coffee can full of change. I got there about 2 minutes too late and cant help but wonder what goodies were in there. Congrats on your find!

Oh I have watched people dump into coin counting machines and I actually got a silver dime that way. I'm usually there dumping myself after searching rolls of pennies.

As far as hunting for silver, I have some favorite areas where the population is a bit older....retirees! I don't always get lucky but when I do, it's usually in this area. It's hit or miss of course but in today's world, and retirees losing money in the stock market/funds, they are cashing in coin. I have to go back to this area tomorrow so I'll be hitting more banks and crossing my fingers.

I take breaks from hitting banks but when I have a nice hit like today, it always inspires me. Also, if you feel the tellers are snaking the silver, well...can you blame them? Just hit every bank you pass when you are in your car outside your local area. You WILL get lucky one day and it may be just a nice shiny 67 or 68 but cheap silver is cheap silver. Today a 68, maybe tomorrow a Walking Liberty. Those too are out there and finding one of those REALLY lights a fire under me :banana:

I bought 300.00 in change off a dude at the next window at a Wamu right before they buckled, I was SURE I was gonna get some goodies out of that haul...

got another $100 worth of halves at a National City in a ghetto-ish part of town. I figured the inner city would be a good place to look.

I walk in and ask if they have any rolls of halves. "we have 2300 rolls, how many do you want."

Not one found in the 10 rolls I bought. Not sure if it's worth going back if they have that many.
